"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "
Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.
Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

'Everyone leave,' Aiden ground out. 'This isn't a godsdamn show.'
'And I think he's like the father,' Luke said.
Aiden rose to his feet. 'Get. Out.'”

Rating: 5 of 5 stars
Series book: Yes
Will I read the Next: Yes
NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO. I am done. Life is... Jennifer WHY. Okay whew..breathing. Okay. This book was truly amazing, but so are all of Jennifer Armentrout's books. But this was...damn man. Damn. I think this calls for a little GIF action. While reading this book, I was literally jumping up and down in my seat it was so amazing. Basically I looked like this:
And then at the end:
Okay, okay on to the reasons for those reactions..
The writing was amazing. As usual. No change there. So instead of trying to rephrase just how good it was, I'm gonna copy and paste from some of my other reviews. Because I, admittedly, am no where near as good an author as Armentrout. "Armentrout is a god. Yes, I said it. She is a god! I don't know how she got so much talent for writing, but she's one of the best I have ever read." "Is there some drug that makes your writing good?" "She's so good it isn't fair." Convinced? Yeah? Okay on to the plot.
I thought I knew what was gonna happen. I thought I KNEW. I was preparing myself through the book. Then BAM. First twist. Cry a little and continue. BAM. Another twist. Keep pressing on. Then BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM. The end. Crawl into your own comfy little whole and die. At this point in the series the plot cannot be anything but original. The plot is so damn original you wish that it would just stop, go cliche, and have a happy ever after. that didn't happen. It stayed original until the very end when it smacked you in the face with the last five words.
Alex is just the best. She has this whole continuous character arch thing going on throughout the whole series. I love how in the beginning of the book she's all like "Woah there Alex, you've been a bitch" and totally reconnects with the other supporting characters in the book. But as much as I love Alex and her sarcastic but lovable ways, Deacon takes the favorite character award. He just comes off so sweet and underestimated. But for some reason I can't get a clear picture of him. Whatever he's still lovable. Like a big blonde teddy bear. And the gods were finally in this book. I'm like walking and making lunch at the same time and the fourth god in the book shows up and I seriously stopped my mom and said, no squealed "The gods are here!!!" I always love how different authors portray the gods and I really liked Armentrouts version. They're less high and mighty and more "hey, we're bored. You're entertaining. Just try not to destroy the world. Kay?"
What sucks about this review is, I cannot say anything without spoiling... So highlight if you wanna be spoiled. But don't attack me if you regret it. *Seth is totally insane! He went all crazy jealous stalker douch-face on Alex and the council. Used all of Alex's Akasha before she even awakens to kill a bunch of people and go totally bat shit. Aiden and Alex are seriously official (in everyway possible, *eyebrow wiggle*) and Seth is just like whatever we're ONE. This won't last long. Enjoy it. *Manly stare at Aiden, testosterone contest* AND WHEN ALEX AWAKENS SETH BLEEPING POSSESSES HER AND OMIGOSH.*
Favorite quotes:
"'Whoa,' I heard Deacon murmur. 'This is like watching a chick give birth or something.'
'Oh my gods, I'm going to kill him.' I could feel the beads of blood breaking out under my jeans. 'I'm going to punch him-''Everyone leave,' Aiden ground out. 'This isn't a godsdamn show.'
'And I think he's like the father,' Luke said.
Aiden rose to his feet. 'Get. Out.'”
“Gods, it was a messed up day when I was the voice of reason.”
“Throwing a sub at the Apollyon probably wasn't something that should be done in public. But I couldn't help it; I laughed.”
