Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

 Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.

                                                              Rating: 5 out of 5
                                                              Series book: Yes
Will I read the next book: HELLS YEAH
First off, I almost didn't read this book. Don't get me wrong, paranormal is my favorite type of book...but aliens? I was just thinking it was even too much for me. But I read all these reviews saying how amazing it was, so I just picked it up to see what all the fuss was about. And I have to say, the reviews weren't accurate. Obsidian wasn't amazing...it was bleeping beautiful, a work of art, it left a burning need inside for more. Unlike other paranormal romances, Katy doesn't fall for Daemon immediately, because he was a complete and total asshat. It's not like twilight, she's not like "Oh, you're a jerk to me? Cool that makes me want you more!" Instead shes all like "Fuck off, butthead. Don't be such a dick." And I was all like Claps for you Katy! The plot was totally original, the characters intriguing, and the writing wasn't choppy at all, it was totally smooth. If you haven't read this book, stop whatever you're doing and read it. NOW. In case my fan-girling didn't totally wanna make you read this book, here are some quotes that made me love it more:
"Oh, yeah." Carissa nodded. "They were googley-eyes in class on Friday. It was pretty steamy, the whole 'I'm screwing you with my eyes' thing they had going on."
“Ash is going to kick your ass, Daemon."
Daemon's grin went up a notch. "Nah, she likes my ass too much for that.”
Daemon took the seat behind me, and my stomach jumped clear into my throat. I was going to vomit. Right here, in class, in front —
He poked me in the back with his pen.
I froze. Him and that ******* pen. The poke came again, this time with a little force behind it. I swung around, eyes narrowed. “What?”
Daemon smiled.
