For the most part, Crewel was an amazing read. It got pretty confusing at times, but that's to be expected in this genre of books. But seriously, Mind. Blown. It's really hard to describe this book in one review, but I'll try.
The writing was...Okay, can I go gif on this? Because my words aren't coming out right... Okay. The Writing was:
Jost was just the perfect love interest. He had this horrible background story and a tortured soul, but was also super sweet and man I just loved him. The romance was kind of gradual and then BAM it was at the "I love you and I can't live without you" stage. Which confused me a little bit at first, like how did that happen? But it was okay because it was the outcome that you couldn't help but root for.
In short, I am amazed. This new world, Arras was perfect. On the surface. And then you see this corrupt government controlling the lives of all the citizens. Typical dystopian, right? Wrong. This is so much more. I don't wanna give away too much but let me just direct you back to that GIF up there.
My reaction to the Plot:
You see that baby? What she's saying there is..This was like magic. At first I was wondering if it would be a normal save all of society type of plot. And then it wasn't. To be honest, I'm a little bit confused on what the point was. But it was still cool.
The characters were the perfect mix of imperfections. You know how in those Disney movies(Don't deny it, you've all watched them) they have those villains you just love to hate? Yup, like that one.
Well Crewel had those too. And those perfect Disney princesses? Yeah, no. These princesses, AKA Spinsters, were anything but perfect. Actually most the time I'm sure you'll find yourself wanting to reach through the pages and ring their pretty little necks. And the hero was the ultimate anti-disney-princess. Sarcastic(Everyone loves a sarcastic main character) and lovable(in a not-so-lovable kind of way), Adeline was the perfect main character.
And the romance...Oh Jost.
