Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan

The Mark of Athena (The Heroes of Olympus, #3)Annabeth is terrified. Just when she's about to be reunited with Percy—after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera—it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can’t blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon masthead, Leo's fantastical creation doesn't appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.

And that's only one of her worries. In her pocket Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving demand: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find—and close—the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?

Annabeth's biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he's now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader, but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side.

Narrated by four different demigods, The Mark of Athena is an unforgettable journey across land and sea to Rome, where important discoveries, surprising sacrifices, and unspeakable horrors await. Climb aboard the Argo II, if you dare....

In honor of House of Hades coming out today I thought I'd review the third book in the Heroes of Olympus series, The Mark of Athena.  So to all the Rick Riordan fans out there I know we've been chomping on the bit for over a year now for House of Hades to come out.  I got my copy of House of Hades today, and so far it is really good.  I won't say anything more because I don't want to ruin it for you.
So now I will get to my initial review of The Mark of Athena.  When I got this I was so happy that Annabeth and Percy were going to be reunited.  I was really upset when I found out that Percy had gone missing in  The Lost Hero.  When they were reunited I couldn't help, but smile.  Then Leo had to go and mess things up, and they have to flee from New Rome.  There they decide to cross the Atlantic into the Mediterranean where they have tons of problems.  Let me tell you it is not easy on the seven.  Then just when they think their safe, something terrible happens, and it rocks their world.  I'm going to hide the spoiler.  Just highlight over it if you want to read it.  WARNING: It may ruin the end of the book.  Percy and Annabeth fall into Tarturus, after retrieving the Athena Parthenos from Arachne's lair.
I love all the characters, but there are some I like less then others.  Frank isn't at the top of my favorites, but I do like him.  I think Percy and Annabeth are going to always be my favorites.  I like how Piper isn't your average daughter of Aphrodite.  I think she's strong and not self-centered.  She cares about her friends more than she does her looks.  Which I think is rare among the Aphrodite kids.  Jason's cool he also isn't one of may favorites, but I'd like to know more about him and his past.  I think it's neat how Hazel came back from the dead and has to fight all the demons of her past.  When you learn her secret your jaw will drop.  Leo is always making me laugh, and he makes the book.
I really enjoyed the book like I do all of Rick's.  He's the one who got me interested in reading.  So if you haven't read any of Rick's books you should.  Yeah they may be for younger kids, but like Harry Potter I think everyone can enjoy them.  I must warn you before you read these books our fandom is a little bit crazy.
Be warned, we are crazy, but we like it that way. :)  Also a note to those who have a Pinterest, or any social media where you like to talk about the books you read.  I have seen several pictures and posts asking not to post any spoilers about House of Hades until the first of November.  Please take into consideration all those who want to find out what happens on their own.  This includes me.
I hope you get a chance to read this series and any of Rick's other books.
